Onekama, MichiganCurrent Minutes: April 5, 2006
(PAST Minutes): March 2006 | January 2006 | October 2005 | September 2005 | May, 2005 | April, 2005Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM.
Attending members were Barb, Beverly, Chuck, Linda, Frank, and Dave. Sympathies were expressed for George and Margaret Punches on the loss of George’s Father. Funeral was today.
Reading and discussion of March minutes was postponed since no one had a copy of them.
Treasurer’s report was discussed.
Dave told us he has combined two CD’s into one for 14 months at a higher interest rate after emailing and phoning members for approval. He had checked with the lighthouse people to make sure it would work out before taking this action. Everyone approved.
Frank suggested separating the cost of printing for the Story of Portage from the other printing charges.
Dave has received another bill from Scheppleman’s Electric. Original amount was for 2 control units. They have added interest charges on twice. Frank moved we pay the base amount. Motion was seconded and approved.
Some discussion took Portage Lake Associationce regarding collecting past due memberships. Dave will send out some reminders. Frank moved we accept the treasurer’s report. Chuck seconded the motion. Approved.
Old Business:
Petunia Parade is under control.
Fund Raiser is well under way. Blue Slipper is doing the food again. Time Krause will provide the music. No approach has been made to Mark yet. It will be a Sinatra Party. Portage Lake Associationns are well under way and things look good. The later date may help.
Calendar - Committee chose 14 pictures. Paul is to have them ready for the fund raiser.
Sales of the Story of Portage are going fine.
Fireworks - Paul is in charge. Frank reported that it is under control. The first fundraising breakfast brought in approximately $600.00. The next is scheduled for 5/21.
Concerts- Margaret has everything all scheduled.
Fishing Tourney - Frank said he thought the Portage Lake Association should make a donation to the Memorial Weekend Fishing Tourney. Linda suggested $50.00. There was some discussion about why other charter boat captains were not invited. Barb suggested making a larger contribution. Decision was to start with $50.00 this year and see if enough recognition was given to increase it next year. Linda moved we send $50.00. Barb seconded. Approved.
Portage Advertising Group. - There is some confusion about what is happening now that the person who had been the activist has been laid off. Discussion was that we need it to get going actively, but noone knows who is in charge now.
New Business: Frank loaned the palm trees to the Rotary Club. All approved. A sign was suggested.
Barb brought up how nice park benches along the sidewalk would be. A discussion took Portage Lake Associationce regarding whether we have sidewalks all the way through the village or not. It was decided to check that out because a sidewalk would have to come first. We would also have to check with the village. It is considered for later discussion.
Chuck asked about dredging. Frank moved the Portage Lake Association send a letter to legislators. Barb is to get copies of other letters and send one from Portage Lake Association. Other members are urged to write also. If the channel is not dredged, larger sailing ships, etc., cannot use it. Bev suggested inviting one of our legislators to a Portage Lake Association meeting regarding the topic of dredging and advertising it ahead of time so that we have a larger attendance.
Adjourn: Bev moved the meeting be adjourned. Dave seconded. Passed.
Respectfully submitted,
Beverly Bauer Secretary
