Treasurer’s report was read and approved.
Roger Cody, Present, clarified our tax status with us. We are a 501©(4) corporation. This type of organization is best for the organization itself. It does exempt the Portage Lake Association from paying sales taxes in most situation. It does not allow donators to write off donations to the Portage Lake Association on their taxes. The organization is in good standing with both the State of Michigan and the IRS. Roger is in possession of the Certificate of Tax Exemption and the letter which must be attached to it to be provided all vendors.
Old Business:
The plans for the fundraiser 2007 are underway. This activity is being co-chaired by Roger Cody and Barb Wolverton. It has been scheduled to be held on June 16 at the Lions Den, Onekama, Michigan. The theme this year will be the 1950’s!!!!
Roger Cody has delegated individuals to serve on the following committees during 2007: Petunias, Concerts in the Park, Finance/Budget, Newsletter, Marina Initiative, Publicity, Fundraiser, Fall Festival, Fireworks, Awareness/Membership and Celebration of Lights. A major goal this year is to increase awareness to the public as to what the Portage Lake Association does and why you should support it.
New Business:
Roger Cody, as President, brought up many ideas for 2007. A quarterly newsletter is planned for distribution. This newsletter will include a lot of beneficial information and will be a kick-off for the awareness campaign. Also, as a result of these ideas, a motion was presented and approved that we re-initiate an investigation into a municipal marina in Onekama.
Margaret Punches has most of the concerts for this summer planned. There will be 9 concerts in 2007. She has also contacted the appropriate business to get a banner for the concerts. Margaret will apply for a grant again this year.
Because of our status as a non-profit corporation, we are entitled to free publicity through Public Service Announcements. Nancy Cody is in charge of this. This will play a big part in the new awareness campaign.
Next meeting February 7, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.. There will be a fundraiser meeting immediately before the regular meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m..
