The meeting was called to order by President Roger Cody at 7:10 p.m.
Present: Roger & Nancy Cody, Barb Wolverton, Chuck & Mary Reed, Paul & Jane Mueller, Dave Combs, Lynise Hensel, George & Margaret Punches, Dave Schultz, Dick & Connie Zimmermann, Sheila Bookhelmer (guest), Frank & Linda English, Jim Simons, Judy Blackmore and Bob Wendt.
The minutes have been posted on the website.
The treasurer’s report was read and approved.
Committee reports:
Boat launch: Bob Wendt presented a letter to the group received from the Department of Natural Resources. There are a lot of questions about the original allotment for this project. The Village is to keep us informed on this issue.
Watershed: Mike Acton was not present to give us a report. It was noted that a meeting has been scheduled for committee members on June 13 from 4-6 p.m. at the Media Center of Onekama High School. Also a general follow up meeting for property owners has been scheduled for June 28 from 7-9 p.m. at the Farr Center.
School Bond Issue: Roger and Dave are involved in the committee looking into a school bond. They indicated that the high school is in bad need of renovations. This is only in the preliminary steps at this time.
Infrastructure: Dave Gibbons and Doug Calloway have volunteered to lead this effort. Possible projects would be signage, park improvements.
Guest speaker: Sheila Bookhelmer, Next Dimensions:
Sheila is working on a virtual tour of Onekama. This is something that could be linked to our website as well as linked to local businesses. Doug suggested that this may be a good way to bring awareness of the public areas to our website. This issue needs further discussion. Roger will appoint a committee to follow up on this. A motion was made and approved authorizing $150.00 to fund this project.
Connie Zimmerman presented a request to the group for funds to improve the Farr Center Meeting Room and Kitchen. After discussion it was a unanimous decision that the Portage Lake Association could not fund this project as it was considered maintenance to a village property. Roger will work with Bob Wendt on this project. It is possible that the PLA can help, not finance, this project.
The Portage Point Summer Resort Association has refused to allow us to public the Portage Point Grapevine on our website.
Several banners have twisted. Dave Combs has agreed to contact the maintenance organization.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
Next meeting July 11 @ 7 p.m.
