The meeting was called to order at 7:15, by our Vice-President, Margaret Punches.

The March minutes were discussed. Motion was made by Dave Combs and seconded by Jim Simons to accept them. Motion approved.

The April minutes were discussed. Motion was made by Nancy Cody and seconded by Chuck Reid to accept them. Motion approved

The Treasurer’s report was presented. Expenditures for Christmas lighting and fireworks were discussed. Motion was made by Chuck Reid and seconded by Jim Simons to accept the report. Motion approved.

Old Business: The Petunia Parade is well under way. Last month the board had approved an expenditure of $850.00 for the removal of old soil and rePortage Lake Associationcement with new top soil in the petunia beds. The work was to be done by Joe Skiera. It turns out that this was a misunderstanding. Only the beds in front of Liz Miller’s house and the Portage Lake Motel were done. The consensus of opinion was to accept the fact that is was a misunderstanding and that it was simply much more expensive than we thought. We will have to do a few beds each year instead of doing them all at once. Rototilling of the new beds is scheduled for 5/24, Raking 5/31, and Portage Lake Associationnting 6/1. Rain date for Portage Lake Associationnting is 6/2. It takes 65 flats of petunias for this, plus other flowers for other containers.

Citizen of the Year nominations are to be sent to Dave Combs.

We were reminded of the next fireworks fundraiser, a pancake breakfast, on 5/21 from 8:00 to 12:30 AM. Several people volunteered to help with this.

Paul reported that the calendars will be ready for the fundraiser. They are 18 month calendars and will be priced at $10.00 each.

Concerts are scheduled beginning on 7/3, with a performance by Tim & Byron Joseph, and continuing through 8/20. A grant was applied for and received to help defray the cost. Thanks to Margaret, this sounds like a really good lineup.

New Business: The fishing tournament on Memorial Weekend was discussed.

The letter writing campaign concerning the dredging of the channel was discussed. It appears that the decision is already made. Most of the funds went to the Katrina disaster and it simply will not happen this year.

Paul brought up the possibility of helping to fund the Professional testing of the Portage Lake water. It would be a more extensive testing than can be done at the school. After discussion, the suggestion was tabled pending the answers of specific questions. What is the actual cost going to be? Has there been any evidence of problems that might have triggered the need for this testing? When would it be done, etc?

Jim Simons moved that we express our support for the idea, with the amount of our involvement to be determined later. Seconded by Nancy and approved.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Beverly Bauer Secretary
