(PAST Minutes): April, 2005 | May, 2005The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm in the Farr Center by President Paul Mueller. Also present were Barb Wolverton, Nancy Cody, Linda English, Frank English, Mary Reed, Chuck Reed, Judy Blackmore, Dave Combs, Connie Zimmermann.
MINUTES were approved as presented.
TREASURER'S REPORT was approved for audit. A CD for $ 5000 will be renewed for another 6 months.
STREET DECORATIONS: Paul Mueller reported on a discussion he had with a Filer Township representative Connie Grenn regarding their experiences with street decorations. They have just approved a contract with the Michigan Decorations Company. After much discussion it was moved and seconded that we authorize the President to contract with the Michigan Decoration Company for three years to put up, take down and maintain our street decorations. The motion passed unanimously. A report was given by Judy Blackmore about her discussion with Schepplemann Electric regarding the work that was outlined in the August 3, 2005 minutes. He said the rules have changed, necessitating coordination with several agencies but that he can have the work finished this Fall. It was moved and seconded to authorize up to $3500 for Schepplemann to do the electrical work. The motion passed unanimously.
Bowling will take down the Banners as soon as possible as part of the present contract we have with him.
FALL FEST OCTOBER 8, 2005, 10 am to 4 pm: Jeff Sternberger has reserved the Village Park, the Lion's Food Wagon, contracted for the face painting, balloon man, Rockin' R Stables and the children's jumping house. The vendors have been notified. Posters will be available at Nature's Elegance and Appearance's Salon for Portage Lake Association members to pick up and distribute them. Picnic tables will need to be moved on October 7th, 5 pm (if Bob Wendt has not already moved them.) There are 8 paid vendors to date. The Girl Scouts will be in charge of the pumpkin contest. Trinity Lutheran Church will have a doughnut and coffee wagon.
LIGHTHOUSE: The Township Parks and Recreation Committee will take over the responsibility of moving, Portage Lake Associationcing and erecting the old lighthouse that has been preserved for over 50 years. It was moved and seconded that we gift to the Township Parks and Recreation Committee the $5,339.94 that has been raised by Portage Lake Association over the years to use for the repair, moving and erection of the lighthouse at North Park and a Portage Lake Associationque acknowledging the Portage Lake Association donation. The motion was passed unanimously.
WEBSITE: Nancy Cody reported that we are getting about 300 hits a month on our site from as far away as Norway. She reviewed the options available for subscribers and said she felt that for marketing at the present time it would be best to make personal calls on the local businesses. Alpine Motor Lodge and Nature's Elegance are presently on the Website. Members volunteered to solicit Onekama businesses. They will get material off of the website for disPortage Lake Associationy purposes.
PORTAGE LAKE PRINTS: Of 25 purchased by Portage Lake Association, about 1/2 have been sold. They will be on disPortage Lake Associationy at the following shops for purchase: MacBeth's, Nature's Elegance and Linebacker's .
NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Chair Judy Blackmore said the report and slate will be sent to the membership for voting in the October mailing.
