The implementation of the Portage Lake Watershed Forever Plan
continues. Fighting Portage Lake's invasive species is the hot
button issue in 2009 and a township government sponsored committee
is taking the lead on this. A new
webpage devoted to fighting invasive species on Portage Lake is
now available.
Our community based plan was created to ensure the wise use
and enjoyment of the Portage Lake Watershed now and for future
generations. We hope you will join us in our efforts.
We are building an endowment fund to implement this
plan. This fund was created in fall of 2006 at the Manistee County Community Foundation (MCCF)
to implement and update the Portage Lake Watershed Forever
Plan. To donate, please call 231-723-7269 or donate online . As we are now affiliated with
the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, the donation link
will direct you to their website. Just search for "Portage Lake
Watershed" in the Specific Fund Name box. Every dollar
helps!!
